Recent Cybersecurity Breaches Target Law Enforcement Systems of Tech Giants and Crypto Exchanges
Recently, there has been a surge in cybersecurity threats resulting in hackers infiltrating the law enforcement request systems of leading tech companies like Google, Meta (formerly Facebook), and TikTok, as well as major crypto exchanges such as Binance and Coinbase. A report by InfoStealers reveals that a hacker known as “Tamagami” has gained unauthorized access to these systems in order to obtain user data.
BreachForum Ads Expose Sale of User Data
The hacker has taken advantage of their illegal access by publishing ads on the cybercrime forum BreachForum. This platform emerged after the closure and seizure of RaidForums in 2022. In the ads, the hacker offers to sell a Facebook/Instagram (Meta) – Law Enforcement Request System account, allowing users to access data from these platforms within eight hours. The account is available for one-time requests at $500 or complete access at a negotiable price.
In addition, the hacker claims to have acquired access to Kodex Global, a law enforcement system that can request information from Binance, Coinbase, LinkedIn, Discord, Tinder, and Chainlink. Access to Kodex is priced at $300 per request or $5,000 for the entire account.
Hudson Rock Identifies Compromised Credentials
Hudson Rock, a cybersecurity firm, suggests that hackers often exploit law enforcement systems using compromised credentials obtained through Infostealer malware infections. These compromised credentials usually belong to officials who inadvertently allowed their computers to be breached.
The hacker’s ability to access these systems may be attributed to a set of compromised credentials. Their previous posts on a cybercrime forum demonstrate their skill in exploiting IntelX, which is believed to be a legal service.
Hacker Offers Binance Law Enforcement Request Panel Access for 10,000 Bitcoin
In a similar incident in December 2023, a hacker named “Miembro” advertised the sale of Binance’s Law Enforcement Request Panel on BreachForum for 10,000 Bitcoin. This panel typically processes requests within three to seven days and provides users with unlimited request capabilities.
