UK Authorities Block 43 Crypto Phishing Websites

UK authorities have taken action against potential crypto phishing websites, shutting down 43 suspicious platforms. The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) identified a spoof email address used by bad actors to target customers of blockchain.com. This discovery led to the identification of 42 additional scam websites, including “actionfraud.info” and “departmentfraud.com,” which were promptly shut down by authorities.

Scammers Exploit Users with Fake Emails

Action Fraud, the UK’s national fraud combating unit, warned users about scammers’ tactics. These include sending emails that lead to scam websites. One example mentioned fake emails claiming that recipients had won a “36-piece Tupperware set.” Action Fraud has removed over 295,300 malicious websites based on reports from users.

Crypto Phishing Scams Continue to Impact Users

Last year, Chainalysis reported approval phishing scams that resulted in approximately $375 million being stolen. Approval phishing involves tricking users into signing fraudulent transactions. Web3 firms are urged to enhance support and compliance teams to combat phishing activities and educate users about transaction security.

Phishing Attack Targets Web3 Firms

In a recent phishing attack, bad actors targeted web3 firms through an email campaign. The attackers sent emails containing phishing links to fake community loyalty rewards programs, resulting in the theft of around $3.3 million worth of assets. The breach occurred due to hackers gaining access to an email marketing firm called MailerLite.
