DFZ Labs Enters the Bitcoin Ordinals Ecosystem with Collaborative Gaming Project
DFZ Labs, the creative studio behind the Deadfellaz NFT collection on Ethereum and the upcoming RIP TCG digital card game, is venturing into the Bitcoin Ordinals ecosystem with a collaborative gaming project. The project, called Bits, is a collection of 10,000 Bitcoin Ordinals inscriptions that resemble the pixelated look of Nintendo’s Game Boy. Each unique character profile picture (PFP) will grant access to a “supercharged game development incubator” facilitated by DFZ Labs.
The launch of Bits will take place on Magic Eden’s Bitcoin marketplace on February 13. DFZ Labs will work with infrastructure startup OrdinalsBot for the inscription process and Xverse as its preferred Bitcoin wallet partner.
An Independent Brand Incubated by DFZ Labs
Bits is not an internal initiative led by DFZ Labs’ co-founders. Instead, it is an independent brand incubated by DFZ Labs and will be run by members of the Deadfellaz community as its flagship Bitcoin IP. The co-founders, Betty and Psych, will serve as mentors and advisors.
A Gaming Ecosystem Leveraging Bitcoin’s Security and Decentralization
Betty, CEO of DFZ Labs, explained that instead of creating new Deadfellaz NFTs on BTC, they decided to support an effort to build a gaming ecosystem on Bitcoin that leverages its security, stability, and decentralization. This approach aims to provide indie developers with financial incentives and opportunities within the Bitcoin ecosystem to create games that gamers actually want to play.
Collaborative Development of a Roguelite Game
The Bits team will collaborate with contributors to develop a roguelite game, a variation of tough role-playing games. Bits owners will have the opportunity to shape and contribute to the game’s development. The goal is to release a game that can be played on PC and consoles.
A Modular System Empowering Contributors
The framework of the game is described as modular, allowing Bits holders to create game content that seamlessly integrates into the overall experience. Contributors will be rewarded for their efforts with prizes, opportunities, and BTC. The core Bits team plans to enhance the game with enemies, combat, minigames, bosses, NPCs, storytelling, and upgrade systems.
Snapshot and Airdrop for Deadfellaz Collectors
Prior to the launch, DFZ Labs has taken a community snapshot and will airdrop 500 Bits inscriptions to top Deadfellaz collectors and contributors. This initiative aims to reward and engage the Deadfellaz community.
Excitement in the Ordinals Ecosystem
Betty expressed excitement about entering the Ordinals ecosystem and highlighted the rapid growth and innovation surrounding Bitcoin’s equivalent of NFTs. She emphasized the inspiration drawn from the innovative infrastructure built on BTC and the opportunity to bring that same innovation to the indie gaming community through Bits.
