The Future of Super Bowl Crypto Ads
In 2022, Coinbase made headlines by spending $14 million on a 60-second Super Bowl ad featuring a moving QR code. However, this year, it remains uncertain whether the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the US plans to advertise during the big game. Many other major crypto companies have already confirmed that they will not be running ads during the Super Bowl, including Kraken and Bitcoin Spot ETF issuers like BlackRock and Grayscale. The slots for Super Bowl ads were sold out in November, well before the approval of spot ETFs last month.
This shift away from crypto-heavy advertising is not surprising given the recent collapse of FTX and the subsequent class-action lawsuit involving celebrities who previously endorsed the exchange. However, some Web3 companies, such as Dapper Labs, are finding alternative ways to promote their products. For example, they have been featuring Super Bowl-related NFT drops with retired NFL legends leading up to the big game.
The Super Bowl
The Super Bowl is set to air tomorrow and will feature a matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs in Las Vegas. The event presents one of the biggest marketing opportunities in the country.
