The Recent PlayDapp Security Breach
The recent security breach at PlayDapp has taken a grim turn, with cumulative losses now surpassing $290 million. According to a report by blockchain analytics firm Elliptic, the exploit resulted in the theft of millions worth of PLA tokens, the native cryptocurrency of PlayDapp’s gaming platform and NFT marketplace.
PlayDapp’s Negotiation Attempt Backfires
Following the incident, PlayDapp attempted to negotiate with the hacker, offering a $1 million reward for the return of the stolen funds. However, these efforts proved futile as the hacker showed no willingness to help recover losses. Instead, the hacker minted an additional 1.59 billion PLA tokens valued at $253.9 million and began laundering the funds through various crypto exchanges.
Coinbase Pauses PLA Trading
As a result of PlayDapp pausing its smart contract, Coinbase suspended PLA token trading. Coinbase stated that they will continue to monitor developments related to PLA and update customers accordingly.
Other Recent Crypto Hacks
This PlayDapp security breach is just one of several crypto hacks that have occurred recently. Other projects, such as Radiant Capital, Gamma Strategies, and Socket, have also experienced significant losses due to hacks or vulnerabilities in their systems.
