Kraken Reports Increase in Data Requests, with U.S. Law Enforcement Leading the Way
Kraken, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, has announced a significant rise in data requests received in 2023. Out of the 4,923 inquiries received, 28.2% originated from U.S. law enforcement agencies.

In its transparency report, Kraken disclosed that it fulfilled data requests for 51% of the inquiries received. The company emphasized its commitment to compliance with laws and regulations while prioritizing client privacy.
U.S. Agency Requests: FBI and SEC
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) accounted for 33.1% of U.S. agency requests, indicating a sustained focus on cryptocurrency-related investigations. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), despite constituting only 1.8% of overall U.S. agency requests, represented nearly 60% of regulatory agency inquiries.
Global Requests Surge by 70%
The report also highlighted a 70% increase in global law enforcement and regulatory agency requests compared to the previous year. This surge reflects heightened scrutiny and oversight in the cryptocurrency sector.
Data Requests by Jurisdiction
Kraken reported increases in data requests from specific jurisdictions, with the British Virgin Islands and Australia recording percentage increases of 400% and 341%, respectively.
