Christie’s Presents SOURCE (On NFTs) Collection
Auction house Christie’s has introduced its first on-chain generative art collection called SOURCE (On NFTs), featuring over 400 pieces by artist Robert Alice. The works are described as “digital graffiti” that reimagine the tradition of color field paintings in the context of digital art. Each artwork is created entirely out of text, representing a collision of source texts using NLP algorithms to create new histories. The collection starts at a price of 5 ETH and will decrease in price until all 400 works are sold or reach a resting price of 0.3 ETH.
Christie’s and Robert Alice Make History
Christie’s and artist Robert Alice have made history with the launch of the SOURCE (On NFTs) collection. The artworks in the collection pay homage to the importance of blockchains as a new form of publishing and NFTs as text-based creations. They distill the pre-history of NFTs into contemporary digital color field paintings, combining different source texts through NLP algorithms. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the intersection between art, blockchain technology, and NFTs.
A Book for NFT and Art Enthusiasts
In addition to the on-chain generative art collection, Robert Alice has also released a physical book titled On NFTs. The book features 10 academic essays and profiles of 101 artists working with NFTs. It offers a comprehensive exploration of non-fungible tokens, covering topics ranging from algorithmic art to avatars. Published by luxury art book publisher Taschen, On NFTs is one of the first major survey publications on blockchain-based art and the wider on-chain cultural ecosystem.
Special Edition for High-Value Works
Buyers who mint works for 1.5 ETH or higher at Christie’s will receive a special edition of On NFTs that is hand-signed by Robert Alice. This adds an exclusive touch to the collection and provides an extra incentive for collectors to invest in high-value pieces.
