Eclipse Labs Transition: New CEO Takes the Helm
Eclipse Labs is a software company that was instrumental in developing the first Ethereum layer-2 solution utilizing the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM). According to Neel Somani, Eclipse aims to be the fastest layer-2 solution for Ethereum, combining the best components of the current modular stack.
On Thursday, Eclipse Labs announced the immediate promotion of Vijay Chetty from his CGO role to the position of CEO, following the departure of Somani, the company’s Founder and former CEO.
New CEO’s Industry Experience and Role
Chetty’s extensive experience in the crypto industry spans over a decade, with leadership roles at Uniswap Labs, dYdX Trading, and Ripple Labs. The Eclipse team emphasized Chetty’s pivotal role in establishing the project’s community, investor base, and partnerships.
The announcement did not provide details on the reasons for Somani’s exit. However, Eclipse’s team previously stated their commitment to upholding the highest standards of personal and professional conduct, taking any allegations against their former CEO seriously.
Venture Capital Firm’s Response to Allegations
Hack VC, a Web3 Venture Capital firm, co-led Eclipse’s $50 million Series A Funding in March along with Placeholder VC. In response to the allegations against Somani, the firm expressed deep concern and underlined its zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment and misconduct.
Hack VC collaborated with other investors and Eclipse’s team to address the situation promptly, including encouraging Somani to resign from his role in light of the allegations.
Community Spotlight on Inappropriate Conduct
Toward the end of April, a member of the crypto community publicly called out Somani for alleged inappropriate behavior toward women. The individual shared a Telegram message appearing to show Somani engaging in questionable interactions.
Following the initial accusation, more women in the industry came forward to corroborate the claims and share their own encounters with the Eclipse founder, including instances of unwanted physical contact.
Founder’s Denial and Ongoing Conversation
Somani denied all allegations on May 10, asserting that he had never sexually harassed or assaulted any woman. He acknowledged the seriousness of the issue and announced his temporary withdrawal as the public face of Eclipse to address the accusations.
The controversy sparked a broader discussion within the community about the prevalence of sexual harassment in the industry and the importance of addressing and preventing such behavior. Advocates emphasized the need for respectful and professional conduct in all business interactions.
Closing Thoughts
The leadership change at Eclipse Labs underscores the significance of upholding ethical standards in the crypto industry and addressing misconduct allegations swiftly and decisively. As the community navigates these challenges, promoting a culture of respect and accountability remains paramount for fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
