Elon Musk’s X Corp Bans Accounts in India
Between April 26 and May 25, Elon Musk’s X Corp took action against 2,29,925 accounts in India, primarily for promoting child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity. The microblogging platform also removed 967 accounts for promoting terrorism in the country.
The Ban and Compliance with IT Rules, 2021
X Corp banned a total of 230,892 accounts during this period. As part of its monthly report in accordance with the new IT Rules, 2021, the platform disclosed that it received 17,580 complaints from Indian users. Additionally, the company dealt with 76 grievances related to account suspensions.
The company stated that after reviewing the specifics of each situation, none of the overturned account suspensions were reinstated, and the remaining reported accounts remained suspended.
Types of Complaints from India
Most of the complaints from Indian users were related to ban evasion (6,881 complaints), followed by hateful conduct (3,763), sensitive adult content (3,205), and abuse/harassment (2,815). The platform had previously banned 1,84,241 accounts in India between March 26 and April 25 and also removed 1,303 accounts for promoting terrorism.
