Breaking Down Ethereum’s Latest Development Call 📞

On June 27, 2024, Ethereum developers gathered virtually for the All Core Developers Consensus (ACDC) call #136. This bi-weekly meeting focused on Ethereum’s consensus layer (CL) changes, led by Ethereum Foundation (EF) Researcher Alex Stokes, as reported by Galaxy.com.

💬 Key Discussions

  • Developers discussed new research on client diversity data collection and multi-client block validation.
  • Updates on the Pectra upgrade were shared, including the nearing readiness of Pectra Devnet 1 pending EL client readiness.
  • Information on EIP 6110 specifications and the live PeerDAS Devnet 1 with three CL client implementations.

🔍 New Research

Jorge Arce-Garro presented a study on improving client diversity data reporting by node operators, funded by an EF grant. The research explores methods to facilitate client type communication, evaluating complexity, security, and anonymity.

Péter Szilágyi updated on EL cross-validation, enhancing Ethereum’s resilience by enabling block verification with multiple clients. This implementation requires significant changes to the Engine API, impacting block import performance.

⚙️ Pectra Upgrade Progress

  • EF DevOps Engineer Parithosh Jayanthi awaits EL client teams to launch Pectra Devnet 1.
  • Finalized changes to EIP 6110 by Kalinin introduce a queuing mechanism for processing validator deposit requests.
  • PeerDAS development progresses with ongoing questions around implementation and proposals for blob gas limit and base fee calculation.

Etan Kissling updates on EIP 7688 and EIP 6493, related to Ethereum’s data serialization methods. While not yet included in the Pectra upgrade, developers are pushing for their inclusion, with plans to reassess readiness at a later date.

Progress was also noted on EIP 6493 with the EthereumJS EL client having a working implementation and a client demo in development.
