Opportunities and Risks in the Global Landscape
Delighted to be here, this year I think the way I would frame it is on the one hand, we have two super Cycles that are in their early innings: AI and the energy transition. Since the 1980s, we have not had the enormous prospects and enormous opportunities that these two engines of growth could deliver. On the risk side, there are constraints globally, forecasts for economic growth continue to be weak due to issues around geopolitics, deglobalization, adding costs and headwinds to the growth cycles mentioned earlier. Regions play a crucial role; opportunities in the United States, AI, and energy transition are exciting. The challenges of investing and generating returns on a risk-adjusted basis elsewhere are fundamentally challenged as the world becomes more siloed.

Emerging Markets Opportunities and Risks
When looking at the Emerging Market landscape, opportunities have shifted. The BRICS nations are challenging to invest in currently. Brazil stands out for attractive opportunities driven by undercapitalization and being out of favor globally. In Western markets, Europe, while showcasing individual opportunities, faces sluggish economic growth. The US continues to exhibit resilience amidst challenges, but the risk of large debt maturities in Private Equity looms. The transition towards green energy presents significant opportunities in Brazil’s market. In contrast, navigating the private markets and making bespoke deals is essential to generating Alpha amidst a competitive landscape.
