Rising Interest in an XRP ETF ?Copy

The conversation surrounding the potential launch of an XRP ETF is intensifying, especially as FOX Business journalist Eleanor Terrett indicates that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) may recognize Grayscale’s Form 19b-4 filing for an XRP ETF around February 13, 2025. This development follows NYSE Arca’s application submitted on January 30, which seeks to allow the listing and trading of shares in Grayscale’s converted XRP Trust, mirroring its Bitcoin and Ethereum Trust offerings.

Terrett pointed out that the SEC typically takes about 15 days to respond to such filings, and this acknowledgment could offer crucial insights into the current SEC administration’s perspective on XRP. This is particularly noteworthy given that, under previous SEC Chairman Gary Gensler, XRP was labeled as an unregistered security. However, a federal court has since ruled that XRP does not meet the definition of a security.

Despite the excitement surrounding the possibility of an XRP ETF, Bloomberg analysts James Seyffart and Eric Balchunas currently place the likelihood of approval at just 65% this year. In comparison, the approval probabilities for other cryptocurrencies are as follows:

  • Litecoin: 90%
  • Dogecoin: 75%
  • Solana: 70%

The chances for XRP’s approval could significantly improve if the SEC acknowledges Grayscale’s filing and resolves the ongoing Ripple lawsuit. Seyffart emphasized that the approval of an XRP ETF is unlikely until the result of the lawsuit is determined.

Legal expert Jeremy Hogan also expressed a similar viewpoint, stating that no substantial legal issues remain in the lawsuit that would affect ETF approval. He noted that “XRP… is not a security,” which is a pivotal factor concerning ETF approval. However, like others, he believes that the conclusion of the Ripple vs. SEC case is essential before the ETF can gain approval.

Furthermore, the approval process is anticipated to take between 8 to 12 months due to the complexities involved in the S-1 filing. Nasdaq has also filed for SEC approval to list these ETFs, which would enable investors to exposure to XRP without direct ownership. Should the SEC grant this approval, a surge in demand may lead to an increase in XRP’s market value.

The Regulatory Landscape for XRP ?Copy

Additionally, XRP’s potential is bolstered by the establishment of the SEC’s new Crypto Task Force, which aims to clarify regulatory frameworks around cryptocurrencies. This could significantly impact ongoing legal challenges. Recently, the SEC and Binance together filed a motion to postpone their lawsuit proceedings for 60 days, suggesting that similar delays might be forthcoming in the Ripple case. The SEC’s hesitance might indicate that they are awaiting further developments, possibly in line with the confirmation of Paul Atkins on crypto-related matters.

As events unfold, XRP’s journey through regulation and market reception will be closely monitored. It remains to be seen how upcoming decisions, especially from regulatory bodies, will shape the future of this cryptocurrency and its associated market dynamics.

Hot Take on the Future of XRP’s ETF ?Copy

In summary, the buzz surrounding an XRP ETF gains traction as the potential acknowledgment of Grayscale’s filing by the SEC looms. The interplay between legal outcomes and regulatory responses will play a pivotal role in determining the future of XRP and its ETF prospects. As undertones of favorable legal developments begin to manifest, the community eagerly anticipates the SEC’s next moves in this high-stake scenario. Keeping an eye on regulatory updates will be essential for understanding where XRP might head next in the evolving crypto landscape.
