Key highlights of Zengo include:

  • Advanced payment tools tailored for effortless cross-chain swaps.
  • Utilization of multi-party computation (MPC) technology to enhance security, removing the reliance on conventional seed phrases prone to loss or theft.

Paolo Ardoino, Tether’s CEO, emphasized that this investment is all about empowering users to control their digital assets more effectively. The collaboration is geared towards helping individuals globally navigate blockchain technology with confidence.

Ouriel Ohayon, Zengo’s co-founder and CEO, remarked on the pivotal role stablecoins play in the financial landscape. He noted that USDT is utilized by over 400 million individuals worldwide, strengthening its status as the most widely adopted stablecoin in circulation.

Introducing the Legacy Mesh System ?Copy

Revolutionary Legacy Mesh System Unveiled by Tether for USDT ??

Alongside the investment in Zengo, Tether has launched the Legacy Mesh system, which aims to interconnect USDT0 and existing USDT assets spread across various blockchain platforms. This innovative framework spans several significant networks, including TRON, Ethereum, Arbitrum, Ton, Ink, and Berachain.

The Legacy Mesh system tackles the prevalent issue of liquidity fragmentation often caused by third-party bridges, which introduce complexity in token management. Instead of relying on these intermediary solutions, it offers a cohesive approach to facilitate stablecoin interoperability.

Arbitrum serves as the central hub within this network, establishing a direct link between the USDT and USDT0 systems. This setup allows for increased efficiency in accessing liquidity pools.

Utilizing established liquidity sources from Ethereum, TRON, and TON, the system ensures cost-effective and secure transfers using LayerZero messaging technology. Tether claims that this integration consolidates approximately 98% of all USDT-valued at roughly $138 billion-into a singular framework.

The rollout of the Legacy Mesh system unfolds in stages, with current functionalities facilitating transfers within the mesh and towards Arbitrum. Future enhancements will enable multihop transfers from Legacy Mesh chains to USDT0 ecosystems beyond Arbitrum, such as Ink and Berachain.

This initiative follows the recent unveiling of USDT0, which represents a multichain variant of USDT, developed in collaboration with LayerZero. Operating on the Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard, USDT0 enables seamless cross-chain liquidity without necessitating intermediary bridges or wrapped assets.

The OFT standard employs a decentralized network of oracles and relayers to maintain robust security and efficiency across diverse blockchain ecosystems. This progressive method significantly diverges from traditional cross-chain practices reliant on third-party intermediaries.

For users, these advancements translate into simplified and more secure methods for transferring USDT across a variety of blockchain networks. The focus of the Legacy Mesh system is to facilitate smoother liquidity movements from established networks like TRON and Ethereum into emerging environments such as TON.

As Tether continues to reinforce its position as the leading provider of stablecoins in a progressively competitive marketplace, it remains committed to innovation. As of February 2025, the infrastructure supporting transfers through the Legacy Mesh and to Arbitrum is fully operational, enhancing user capabilities.

Users can now take advantage of the new features provided by the updated systems, with further enhancements rolling out soon. Tether’s latest initiatives align with their vision of creating a more unified dollar system in the on-chain environment.

Hot Take: Shaping the Future of Cryptocurrency ?Copy
