Uniswap Founder Warns of Scammers Exploiting ENS Domains to Manipulate User Interfaces
Uniswap founder Hayden Adams has raised a red flag about scammers taking advantage of Ethereum Name Service (ENS) domains to manipulate user interfaces and target unsuspecting victims. These bad actors have devised a new method of deceiving individuals by altering user interfaces with ENS domains, making them believe they are sending crypto to a legitimate address.
In a recent tweet, Adams shared an example of this scam, where scammers purchase ENS domains that resemble legitimate addresses but use alphanumeric sequences instead of alphabetic characters. This tactic confuses users because certain wallet interfaces display the scammer’s address as the top result when pasting a legitimate address.
To combat these scams, Adams stressed the importance of wallet interfaces implementing filters and urged users to be cautious. ENS founder Nick Johnson also responded to the issue, advising against auto-completing names in the search bar as it is considered too risky.
