The United Nations Development Programme partners with Algorand Foundation
The Algorand Foundation has announced a collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to enhance the blockchain knowledge and skills of UNDP staff. The partnership aims to provide education and training in blockchain through the launch of the Algorand Blockchain Academy.
The Algorand Blockchain Academy
The Algorand Blockchain Academy, set to launch in Q1 2024, will offer recorded lectures and interactive workshops to approximately 22,000 UNDP employees. The academy’s goal is to equip UNDP staff with the necessary tools to address global challenges using blockchain technology.
“We are thrilled to be in a position to leverage the credibility and expertise of the Algorand Foundation and key members of their ecosystem in order to upskill, empower, and inspire UN practitioners around the world.” – Robert Pasicko
Benefits of blockchain education
Through the learning course provided by the Algorand Blockchain Academy, UNDP staff will gain knowledge on how blockchain can extend financial services to marginalized communities and enhance transparency in supply chains. This initiative demonstrates the United Nations’ ongoing efforts to explore and adopt blockchain technology.
Previous blockchain initiatives by the United Nations
This collaboration is not the first time that the United Nations has engaged with blockchain technology. In July 2023, the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF) and the Government Blockchain Association (GBA) joined forces to standardize blockchain. The partnership introduced a Dynamic Coalition on blockchain assurance and standardization, aiming to promote adoption and ensure network interoperability.
