Aptos Enters the Crypto Smartphone Competition with JamboPhone

Aptos Partners with Jambo to Empower Emerging Markets Through Crypto Smartphone

Blockchain network Aptos has joined forces with affordable smartphone manufacturer Jambo to create a crypto smartphone called the JamboPhone. This collaboration aims to unlock the digital economy for users in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.

The JamboPhone, priced at $99, was launched in January and is available in over 40 countries. It comes pre-installed with applications such as the Aptos-compatible wallet Petra. Additionally, the phone includes the Jambo App, which offers a comprehensive introduction to Web3 through its educational suite, JamboEarn, and JamboAcademy. Users can also earn income through the app’s Quests feature.

While specific specifications for the phone are not disclosed, it is expected to run on Android 13 and feature a 4,900 mAh battery, a 6.5″ LCD display, and a Dual SIM capability, along with a dual-lens camera setup.

Crypto Smartphone Competition

Crypto smartphones have been in existence for some time now. In 2019, Samsung introduced a built-in crypto wallet in its flagship Galaxy smartphones. HTC also launched its own Exodus blockchain phone shortly after.

The Solana Saga, launched in 2023, sparked significant interest in “cryptophones” due to a series of airdrops to Saga owners. This surge in popularity led to the first run of phones selling out quickly.

Solana has announced the upcoming release of a mid-range ‘Chapter 2’ smartphone targeted at a different market than the $99 JamboPhone. The JamboPhone aims to bring Web3 advancements to emerging markets regardless of their geographic or economic status.

Hot Take: Aptos and Jambo’s Joint Venture to Empower the Underserved

Aptos’ partnership with Jambo to develop the JamboPhone demonstrates a commitment to empowering users in emerging markets. By offering an affordable crypto smartphone and access to Web3 advancements, Aptos and Jambo aim to bridge the digital divide and unlock economic opportunities for individuals in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. The collaboration highlights the growing demand for crypto smartphones and the potential they hold in revolutionizing financial inclusion. With the launch of the JamboPhone, Aptos and Jambo have taken a significant step towards democratizing access to blockchain technology and enabling individuals to participate in the digital economy.
