Aptos Network Restarts Operations Following a 5-Hour Outage

Aptos Network Resumes Operations After Lengthy Outage

Aptos Network, a layer-1 blockchain, has successfully brought its network back online and resumed operations after experiencing a significant outage. The outage lasted for five hours and had a severe impact on transactions within the network.

The Aptos Network Outage

The outage was initially reported by crypto reporter Wu Blockchain, who mentioned that the network had been down for over four hours. This interruption affected on-chain transactions on the Move language blockchain Aptos, with the last transaction occurring at 7:11 UTC+8 on October 19th.

Aptos Back Online

Interestingly, the outage coincided with the anniversary of the network’s launch last year. On-chain transactions were halted from 11:11 pm UTC on October 18th, and the network remained offline for more than five hours. Aptos Network acknowledged the issue in a post, assuring users that they were actively working to resolve it.

Major cryptocurrency exchanges such as Upbit and OKX issued alerts to users about Aptos Network maintenance, temporarily suspending APT deposits and withdrawals.

Users Not Impressed

Despite Aptos Network’s attempt to spin the outage positively, users expressed their dissatisfaction and criticized the network. One user questioned the network’s $5 billion valuation considering the ongoing issues.

Outages On The Rise

Aptos is a venture capital-backed project launched on October 17th, 2022. However, it is not alone in experiencing major outages recently. The Theta network encountered an edge case bug during a node upgrade, leading to block production halting for several hours. Similarly, Coinbase’s layer-2 network Base suffered an outage due to internal infrastructure issues, which were promptly resolved.

Hot Take: Aptos Network Recovers from Outage and Faces User Criticism

Aptos Network has successfully restored its operations after a lengthy outage. However, users are expressing their disappointment with the network’s performance, particularly considering its high valuation. This incident highlights the growing trend of outages experienced by various blockchain networks, including Aptos, Theta, and Coinbase’s Base. As these networks continue to face technical challenges, it becomes crucial for developers to prioritize stability and reliability to maintain user trust and confidence in the crypto space.
