Axie Infinity Co-Founder’s Personal Ethereum Accounts Hacked, Ronin Blockchain Remains Safe

A security breach occurred in two personal Ethereum addresses belonging to Jeff “Jihoz” Zirlin, co-founder of Axie Infinity on the Ronin network. This resulted in a loss of $8 million.

Ancilia, Inc., a web3 security firm, alerted Ronin Network about the unusual withdrawal of over 2,790 Ethereum. The funds were withdrawn to three addresses and then immediately deposited to Tornado.

Axie Infinity: “Ronin Is Not Compromised”

Jihoz confirmed the breach through a personal statement on social media. He clarified that the attack only targeted his personal accounts and did not impact the Ronin blockchain or its operations.

He assured the community that the leaked keys were not connected to Sky Mavis operations and emphasized the strict security measures in place for all chain-related activities.

Axie Infinity co-founder and COO Aleksander Larsen also reiterated that the network remained safe. He stated that the bridge had no issues and Ronin was not compromised.

Despite the setback, Jihoz expressed his determination to move forward and thanked everyone for their support.

Stolen Ethereum Worth Approximately $8.24 Million

At the time of writing, Ethereum is trading at $2,955. The stolen Ethereum would be worth around $8.24 million based on the current price.

Ronin Tokens (RON) Fluctuations

Ronin tokens (RON) experienced significant fluctuations in the past month:

  • Rallied up to as high as $3.49
  • Faced a correction and dropped to $2.40
  • Soared to near the $3.50 mark around Feb. 20
  • Currently at $2.97, with a monthly increase of 31.52%
