Axie Infinity Expands Commercialization Opportunities for NFT Holders
Axie Infinity, the popular turn-based NFT monster-battling game, is embracing commercialization by allowing owners of certain Axie NFTs to create and sell their own merchandise. Sky Mavis, the developer behind Axie Infinity, announced that holders of 4,877 Axie NFTs from the Mystic and Origin collections will have the ability to monetize their characters and launch their own businesses.
The lifted restrictions offer opportunities for owners to create Axie-themed cafes, comics, restaurants, toy collections, and more. However, it’s important to note that commercial restrictions have only been lifted for a small percentage of all Axie monster NFTs.
To coincide with this expansion, Axie Infinity has launched an official merchandise store featuring plush toys, figurines, hoodies, t-shirts, and baseball caps. The initial collection, known as “>code:axie_,” draws inspiration from the first-ever Axie mint in 2018.

Axie Infinity aims to provide more merch options in the future and plans to expand the new shop with additional designs and prototypes in 2024. Buyers can make purchases using cryptocurrency or fiat currency, with additional rewards and discounts available for cryptocurrency payments.
Sky Mavis has committed to allocating 20% of all net profits from merch sales to the Axie Community Treasury, which supports community-based decision-making and decentralization. Additionally, the developer has released image files for 12 different Axies for free online.
