Web3 Startup Bastion Appoints Caroline Friedman as Chief Operating Officer

Caroline Friedman, former Chief of Staff at a16z and Kraken, has been named the Chief Operating Officer of web3 onboarding startup Bastion. Previously serving as the firm’s Head of Operations since February, Friedman will now oversee compliance, regulatory matters, people, public policy, and finance functions.

Friedman emphasized the importance of building a strong operational base to support business growth and highlighted the significance of regulatory and compliance frameworks in achieving the company’s vision. She expressed commitment to working closely with regulators and customers to ensure safe engagement with web3 technologies and the exploration of impactful use cases.

In addition to her operational responsibilities, Friedman will drive initiatives for Bastion’s business growth and team building. The company aims to expand its customer base by delivering exceptional value and service while fostering a skilled, diverse, and aligned workforce.

Prior to her role at a16z and Kraken, Friedman held positions as an Assistant United States Attorney in Major Crimes and a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the National Security and International Crimes Unit at the United States Attorneys’ Offices. She is also a founding member of Bastion.

Bastion co-founder Nassim Eddequiouaq praised Friedman’s leadership and professionalism, expressing confidence in her ability to advance the company’s mission and propel it to new heights.

Bastion’s Recent Funding

On September 18th, Bastion secured $25 million in seed funding led by a16z. Other participants included Laser Digital Ventures, Robot Ventures, Packy McCormick, Not Boring Capital, among others. Founders Nassim Eddequiouaq and Riyaz Faizullabhoy were formerly Chief Information Security Officer of Crypto and Chief Technology Officer of Crypto at a16z, respectively.
