US Attorney Requests Travel Restrictions for Binance’s Changpeng Zhao
The United States Attorney’s Office has formally requested additional travel restrictions for Changpeng Zhao, also known as CZ, the former CEO of Binance. The request was made in a recent court filing by U.S. Attorney Tessa Gorman, who asked Magistrate Judge Brian Tsuchida to approve a motion outlining the conditions for CZ’s release on bail.
The prosecutors have asked that CZ remain within the continental United States until his sentencing hearing on April 30. They also want him to provide a three-day notice for any travel plans, allowing the government to raise objections if necessary.
Authorities Ask CZ to Surrender Passport
In addition to the travel restrictions, the U.S. Attorney’s Office has demanded that CZ surrender his Canadian passport, as well as any other current and expired passports and travel documents, to his legal team.
CZ holds citizenship in the United Arab Emirates and had previously requested permission to travel there to visit his family before the sentencing. However, this request was denied by the judge.
CZ’s legal team has expressed objections to the motion as it is currently written and intends to explore alternatives that would allow him to leave the country.
Binance Continues Global Expansion
Last month, Binance announced its joint venture crypto exchange, Binance Thailand, in collaboration with Gulf Innova, a subsidiary of Gulf Energy Development. This new exchange, abbreviated as Binance TH, provides a platform for digital asset exchange services with Thai baht trading pairs.
Binance Thailand has integrated with local banks in Thailand and formed a partnership with Binance Kazakhstan for brokerage services. These operations are supervised by Thailand’s SEC.
Furthermore, Binance has taken steps to strengthen global cybersecurity efforts by collaborating with INTERPOL. In a recent virtual session focused on cryptocurrency investigations and cyber policing in the Web3 space, Binance hosted over 30 officers from INTERPOL.
