Binance Co-Founder’s Net Worth Soars to $15 Billion Despite Legal Troubles

Changpeng Zhao, the co-founder of Binance, may be facing legal troubles, but his bank balance is looking quite healthy. According to Forbes, Zhao’s net worth has increased to $15 billion from $10.5 billion in April. This news comes after Binance agreed to pay a $4.3 billion fine and Zhao agreed to step down as CEO for three years and plead guilty.

Zhao’s Majority Stake in Binance and Financial Strength

Despite the legal settlement, Zhao still holds a majority stake of 90% in Binance. Forbes suggests that his financial strength could make him one of the world’s richest convicted felons. It is worth noting that he is currently the wealthiest individual in the crypto industry.

Binance’s Strong Business Fundamentals

Binance has been performing well financially, generating over $3 billion in revenue in the past year, according to Forbes. The newly appointed CEO, Richard Teng, also expressed confidence in the company’s business fundamentals through a tweet.

Additional Legal Challenges for Zhao and Binance

Despite settling with the US government, Zhao still faces charges from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for allegedly selling unregistered securities to US customers. Binance is also involved in this case. In a separate case brought by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), Zhao has been ordered to pay a $150 million fine. Furthermore, Binance will be under mandatory supervision by an independent compliance monitor for the next three years. Prosecutors have also filed a motion to restrict Zhao from leaving the US until his sentencing in February.
