Changpeng ‘CZ’ Zhao, the founder of Binance and former CEO of the cryptocurrency exchange, expressed his gratitude for the support he has received from the public and members of the Binance community. CZ reflected on his previous jokes about retiring early as Binance CEO, unaware that his wish would soon come true in an unexpected way. He stated that he is gradually adapting to this unforeseen transition.

Recapping the Recent Ordeal of CZ
CZ has been a prominent figure in the cryptocurrency industry, leading one of the largest crypto exchanges until recently when he faced legal enforcement action. As part of a settlement with the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), he was asked to step down as CEO.
The DOJ had been investigating Binance and CZ since 2018 for alleged involvement in money laundering and violations of Know-Your-Customer (KYC) regulations. CZ was briefly arrested and pleaded guilty to charges related to running an inadequate anti-money laundering system. He was released on a $175 million bond.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for February next year. In the meantime, CZ is prohibited from engaging in illegal activities, tampering with witnesses, or using controlled substances without prescription. US Prosecutors are also seeking to prevent him from leaving the country until the hearing date.
