Binance Refutes Leak Accusations, Dismissing Data and Code Breach Claims

Binance Denies Data Breach

Binance has responded to allegations of a recent data breach, assuring users that their accounts are secure. This comes after a hacker claimed to have gained access to a law enforcement request account called “KodexGlobal,” which supposedly allowed them to subpoena user information from companies like Coinbase, Binance, and Chainlink.

Hacker Offers Access to Law Enforcement Request System

Cybercrime solutions provider Hudson Rock reported that a hacker is selling access to a law enforcement request system account on BreachForums. They are offering this access for $5,000 or $300 per emergency data request (EDR). The hacker claims to be able to make EDRs for various services, including LinkedIn, Discord, Tinder, Binance, Coinbase, Chainlink, SendGrid, and others. It is believed that the hacker gained entry into law enforcement systems by exploiting credentials obtained from Infostealer Infections.

Claims of Binance User Data for Sale

Following these events, a user named “otteroooo” alleged that Binance users’ Know Your Customer (KYC) data was being sold on the dark web. This claim appears to be linked to the GitHub leak. However, Binance has assured users that their accounts are secure and that they have robust security measures in place.

Past Incidents of Compromised Credentials

In December 2023, Hudson Rock reported an attempt to sell access to Binance’s law enforcement portal through KodexGlobal. While Binance acknowledged awareness of such access, they did not confirm any system breaches or data compromises at the time. Additionally, in November of last year, a hacker stole $27 million worth of Tether from a wallet associated with the Binance deployer.

Hot Take: Binance Addresses Data Breach Allegations

Binance has denied allegations of a data breach and reassured users that their accounts are secure. Despite claims from a hacker about accessing a law enforcement request account and the alleged sale of Binance user data on the dark web, the company maintains that they have comprehensive security measures in place. While past incidents involving compromised credentials have been reported, Binance has not confirmed any system breaches or data compromises. It is crucial for users to remain vigilant and follow best practices for securing their cryptocurrency assets.
