Binance Collaborates with Taiwanese Officials to Combat Financial Crimes
Binance, one of the leading cryptocurrency exchanges, has joined forces with Taiwanese authorities to tackle financial crimes. The exchange’s Financial Crimes Compliance (FCC) department partnered with Taiwan’s Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau and the Taipei District Prosecutors Office to address a significant financial crime involving over $6.2 million.
The criminals involved in the case allegedly used crypto platforms to launder stolen digital assets. They attempted to evade detection by utilizing fake identities and false remittance documents. Binance’s official reports stated that the fraudsters presented fabricated customer conversation records to create the illusion of legitimate transactions.

Binance’s financial crimes unit played a crucial role in providing valuable insights to Taiwanese authorities, aiding in the identification of fraudulent activities. Lo Wei-yuan, a prosecutor from the Taipei District Prosecutors Office, collaborated with Binance in investigating nine individuals who now face charges related to money laundering, fraud, and organized crime.
Binance Enhances Compliance Efforts
In an effort to strengthen its relationship with regulators, Binance has taken proactive measures, including assisting in the detection of digital fraud. The cryptocurrency exchange arranged an online meeting with prosecutors and investigators in Taiwan to strategize collectively.
Additionally, Binance conducted a training program aimed at equipping law enforcement officials with the skills necessary to detect financial and cybercrimes. Local authorities in Taiwan have commended Binance for its valuable contributions in investigating digital asset fraud.
Binance has been actively expanding its presence in the Taiwanese market. In 2023, the exchange applied for registration under Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) and the Money Laundering Control Act.

Taiwan Set to Introduce New Legislation
The cryptocurrency landscape in Taiwan may undergo significant changes as regulators plan to introduce new laws by the end of 2024. Huang Tianzhu, chairman of the FSC, expressed concerns regarding the illicit use of cryptocurrencies and intends to impose penalties on violators.
One aspect of the proposed legislation requires foreign exchanges to comply with anti-money laundering (AML) policies. Taiwan hopes that this rule change will help curb money laundering activities.
