Man Shoots Wife After Bitcoin Loss, Leads to Standoff with Police
A man in Thailand shot his wife and engaged in a six-hour standoff with the police after suffering a loss in his Bitcoin investment. The incident occurred when the 35-year-old husband, Kritsada, shot his 31-year-old wife, Pitsamai, with a handgun and barricaded himself in their home. Eventually, he surrendered to the authorities with the help of negotiations involving his sister.
According to Officer Manas Atthadod from Uthai Police Station, Kritsada attempted to kill his wife after she requested a separation due to his loss of approximately $19,500 in Bitcoin investments. The man had been regularly visiting his wife following their separation, but on the night of the incident, she opposed his attempt to reconcile and he shot her.
The man’s .38 caliber handgun was confiscated, and he was taken to a holding cell after receiving medical treatment for a self-inflicted leg injury. Due to severe psychological stress, his interrogation has not yet been possible. He is now facing charges for unlicensed possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as attempted murder of his wife.
Pitsamai is currently receiving medical care for her injuries.
