Last week, ApeFest attendees in Hong Kong reported eye-related problems, prompting Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) creator Yuga Labs to respond. The issues included blurred vision, burning eyes, and extreme pain. Yuga Labs acknowledged the reports and is actively seeking the root causes of these symptoms by reaching out to affected individuals.
According to Yuga Labs, less than 1% of attendees and workers experienced these symptoms. They have encouraged anyone still experiencing these issues to seek medical attention.
Community Criticism
Despite their response, the Bored Ape Yacht Club has faced criticism from the community. Some claim that the company downplayed the incident by stating that only a small number of attendees were affected.
One user, who claimed to be a BAYC community member for over two years, stated that they took out a loan to attend ApeFest and ended up with significant eye-related medical bills.

Crypto trader Adrian Zduńczyk was among the affected attendees and was diagnosed with photokeratitis, a condition caused by exposure to ultraviolet light.
The ApeFest event in Hong Kong featured strobe lights and lasers. There is a theory circulating on Crypto X that disinfecting ultraviolet (UV) lights instead of stage lights may have been the cause of these vision problems.
