Casio Collaborates with Polygon Labs to Launch Virtual G-SHOCK Watches
Casio, the popular watch brand from Japan, has partnered with Polygon Labs, a Layer-2 scalability platform on the Ethereum blockchain network. Together, they will introduce the virtual G-SHOCK watches using Polygon’s protocols.
In addition, Casio plans to release a collection of community access passes based on non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Starting from September 23, users can claim one of the 15,000 NFT-based G-SHOCK creator passes. The pass holders will also gain access to a dedicated Discord channel for the project.
If you have registered for a CASIO ID on the company’s membership site, you can participate in the pre-distribution phase from September 23 to 26. The public distribution phase will follow from September 26 to 29.
Just recently, on August 22, Casio filed a trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. This application covers virtual clothing, NFT-backed media, watches, and stores for virtual goods. Casio aims to leverage the popularity of G-SHOCK with these new NFT-based creator passes.
Casio Allows Community Co-Creation for G-SHOCK
In this community initiative, Casio invites users to propose design concepts for the G-SHOCK creator pass. Users will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite design. The winning design will be integrated into a variant of the NFT pass.
Casio chose Polygon as its platform for launching this Web3 endeavor because of its ability to facilitate fast transactions. This ensures a seamless and efficient process for creating and managing NFTs, while also maintaining a carbon-neutral footprint. Casio Senior General Manager of Timepieces, Takahashi Oh, expressed his thoughts on the collaboration:
“At its core, our virtual G-SHOCK was built to be accessible, innovative, and inclusive. This is why Polygon was the most logical choice for us. Our goal is to work together with users to develop the G-SHOCK brand, which celebrated its 40th anniversary this year.”
With this collaboration, Casio joins other prominent brands like Starbucks, Adidas, and DraftKings, who have already launched initiatives on Polygon Labs.
