Closure of Play-to-Earn in Web3 Chess Game Developer Caused by Extensive Cheating

Developers Pull Plug on Play-to-Earn and NFT Features

The developers of the blockchain chess game Immortal Game have decided to remove its play-to-earn (P2E) and nonfungible token (NFT) features due to widespread cheating. In an announcement on December 13th, the developers stated that while they will continue building Immortal Game as an online chess hub, their goal of providing a real opportunity for players to earn income through the game has failed.

The developers explained that by offering large amounts of cash with no entry barriers, they unintentionally encouraged cheating and compromised the experience for legitimate players seeking a fair and safe environment. As a result, the marketplace for Immortal Game NFTs will be discontinued, and the native P2E Checkmake token (CMT) will no longer be usable in-game.

Discontinuation of NFTs and CMT Rewards

Although NFTs will continue to exist on-chain, users will no longer receive CMT for completing tournaments or daily rewards. However, fiat currency rewards may be introduced in the future. ETH and CMT balances will no longer be displayed on the platform, but users can still transfer their assets by connecting a personal wallet.

At the time of discontinuation, Immortal Game NFTs had a lifetime trading volume of $885,600. The CMT token has a fully diluted market capitalization of $360,075 and is minted on the Immutable blockchain.
