Nym Technologies Receives Grant to Enhance Privacy in Zcash Ecosystem
Nym Technologies has been awarded a $150,000 grant from Zcash Community Grants to integrate metadata privacy protections into the Zcash ecosystem. This collaboration aims to enhance end-to-end privacy solutions for Zcash users and address vulnerabilities related to data leakage.
Integrating Nym’s Mixnet into Zcash Infrastructure
Nym Technologies plans to incorporate its mixnet, which encrypts data into identically sized Sphinx packets and distributes them through a network of mix nodes, into the light client libraries developed by Electric Coin Company. By doing so, they hope to prevent surveillance adversaries from tracing metadata and provide network-level privacy for Zcash users.
Advancing Privacy and Security
“This effort aligns with our core mission to advance the Zcash network, and underscores ZCG’s commitment to addressing challenging issues related to privacy and security.”
– Jason McGee, Zcash Community Grants
According to Electric Coin Company CEO Josh Swihart, network-level privacy has been missing from Zcash since its inception. With Nym’s technology, they aim to strengthen protections for everyday users.
A Downsized Grant with Big Ambitions
Initially, Nym Technologies applied for a $670,000 grant to integrate their anonymous channel into Zcash. However, due to concerns about budgetary implications, ZEC price fluctuations, and feasibility uncertainties, the grant was reduced to $150,000.
