Ethereum Scaling Solution Starknet Collaborates with Celestia for Improved Data Availability
Ethereum scaling solution Starknet has partnered with blockchain network Celestia to enhance data availability for Layer 3 chains within the Starknet ecosystem. The collaboration involves using Celestia’s “Blobstream,” a data availability (DA) layer that securely stores large amounts of data off-chain and provides verifiable proofs of its existence.
The goal is to enable off-chain scaling solutions on Starknet to utilize Celestia, reducing transaction costs. This will be achieved by porting Celestia Blobstream to Cairo, Starknet’s primary programming language, in order to support the development of Layer 3 appchains.
The integration of Celestia into Starknet’s ecosystem is seen as a game-changing combination that will allow high-throughput appchains to settle on the platform.
Celestia’s Data Availability
Celestia was the first project to implement “data availability sampling,” which allows validators on scaling networks to sample a significant portion of data for availability verification. This improves efficiency and throughput compared to full data verification.
Several Layer 2 projects, including Manta Pacific, Aevo, and ZKFair, have already utilized Celestia’s data availability (DA) to develop Validiums, which are scaling solutions combining zero-knowledge proofs and data availability. Additionally, Polygon and Arbitrum have integrated Celestia into their Layer 2 development kits.
Now, Starknet plans to leverage Celestia’s capabilities to build Layer 3 chains within its own ecosystem.
Previously, Starknet was exploring integration with Avail, a competitor of Celestia, for a data availability solution using Madara, a customizable sequencer for Starknet app-chains.
Hot Take: Starknet and Celestia Partnership Enhances Ethereum Scaling
The collaboration between Starknet and Celestia marks a significant step forward in improving Ethereum’s scaling capabilities. By leveraging Celestia’s Blobstream and data availability technology, Starknet can enhance the efficiency and reduce transaction costs for Layer 3 chains within its ecosystem.
Celestia’s proven track record with Layer 2 projects demonstrates its effectiveness in scaling solutions. Integrating it into Starknet opens up new possibilities for high-throughput appchains on the platform.
This partnership showcases the importance of collaboration in the blockchain space, as different projects come together to address scalability challenges and drive innovation in the Ethereum network.
