CryptoPunk Alien NFT Sells for $16 Million in Ether
In a recent sale, a rare CryptoPunk non-fungible token (NFT) belonging to the Alien set was sold for over $16 million worth of Ether (ETH). This marks the second-highest transaction for a CryptoPunk, following a record-breaking purchase in February 2022.
Alien Punk NFT Sold for 4,500 ETH
On March 4, 2024, an anonymous buyer acquired CryptoPunk #3100 for 4,500 ETH, which was valued at $16.03 million at the time. This particular CryptoPunk features blue skin and a bandana.
- The buyer initially offered a bid of 4,250 ETH but withdrew it on March 1.
- Later, on March 4, the bidder increased the offer to 4,500 ETH, which was accepted by the seller.
CryptoPunk #3100 is one of the nine Alien Punks in the CryptoPunks collection. With only 10,000 pieces in total, Alien Punks are considered the rarest and most expensive set within the collection.
The highest recorded sale for a CryptoPunk is still held by Deepak Thapliyal, CEO of Chain, who purchased CryptoPunk #5822 (another Alien Punk) for 8,000 ETH in February 2022. At that time, the purchase was valued at nearly $24 million.
Currently, there are two other Alien Punk NFTs available for sale: one priced at 5,000 ETH (equivalent to $17.97 million) and another at 5,500 ETH (worth $19.7 million).
NFTs Gaining Momentum in the Bull Market?
CryptoPunks, created by Larva Labs in 2017, is considered one of the first NFT collections on the Ethereum blockchain. In March 2022, Yuga Labs, the creator of Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), acquired the intellectual property rights to CryptoPunks.
According to NFT marketplace OpenSea, the total volume of all Punks traded is 1,223,620 ETH, which is equivalent to $4.3 billion at the current price of ETH.
- It’s important to note that the total value of all Punks traded doesn’t directly translate to $4.3 billion due to variations in ETH values over the years.
Data from nftpricefloor.com reveals that the floor price for a CryptoPunk NFT is approximately 57 ETH. The collection has a 24-hour trading volume of 4,910.6 ETH ($17.6 million) and a market capitalization of 569,900 ETH ($2 billion), making it one of the top NFT collections.
The recent high-value sale has sparked excitement among some members of the crypto community, who believe that it signals a revival for NFTs and potentially indicates a return of the bull market.
