Dark Web Drug Kingpin Extradited: $18 Million in Crypto Transactions Unveiled

Austrian authorities have extradited Milomir Desnica, the alleged administrator of the darknet market Monopoly Market, to the United States. Desnica, a resident of Serbia, is accused of running the site and facilitating $18 million in illegal drug transactions using cryptocurrencies. Monopoly Market was shut down in December 2021 when its servers were seized. Last month, a major operation conducted by Europol and law enforcement agencies from various countries resulted in 288 arrests and the seizure of over $53 million in cash and crypto assets, drugs, and weapons. Desnica has been indicted on charges of conspiracy to possess and distribute methamphetamine and conspiracy to launder monetary instruments. The maximum sentence for the drug distribution charge is life in prison, while the money laundering charge carries a maximum term of 20 years in prison. Darknet markets like Monopoly Market and Hydra have been targeted by law enforcement agencies worldwide.
