Mt Gox Trustee Delays Repayments Due to Payment Provider Discussions
The trustee of Mt Gox, Nobuaki Kobayashi, has announced that the repayments owed to the exchange’s creditors will be delayed. Kobayashi explained that lengthy discussions with specific payment providers prevented him from meeting the October 31, 2023 deadline. As a result, the repayments will now begin next year, with the new deadline set for October 31, 2024.
Creditors Wait Nine Years for Payments
Mt Gox creditors have been waiting for nine years to receive their payments. They are currently owed 141,686 BTC, 142,846 BCH, and 69,776,002,441 yen. While the delay has been extended, creditors who have completed their claims may still receive a payment by the end of this year.
Repayments for Completed Claims Could Start by Year’s End
According to Kobayashi’s letter, rehabilitation creditors who have provided the necessary information may see repayments made in sequence as early as the end of this year. However, it is important to note that this schedule is subject to change. Additionally, due to a high volume of inquiries regarding the process, the rehabilitation team may not be able to respond promptly.
