In collaboration with Polygon, Immutable launches Immutable zkEVM mainnet
In early access mode, web3 gaming platform Immutable has launched its Immutable zkEVM mainnet in collaboration with the Ethereum scaling project Polygon. This launch is specifically for select game studios and ecosystem partner onboarding. The partnership between Immutable and Polygon was announced in March last year with the aim of developing zkEVM, a Layer 2 scaling solution that uses zero-knowledge proofs for more efficient Ethereum transactions. The dedicated chain of Immutable zkEVM operates separately from its existing StarkEx-based Layer 2 chain, Immutable X, and leverages zk-rollup technology to ensure compatibility with Ethereum apps.
A blockchain exclusively for gamers
Immutable has stated that several games, including Guild of Guardians, Metalcore, Shardbound, Treeverse, Cool Cats, BADMAD Robots, Space Nation, Eyeball Games, and Imaginary Ones, are committed to being the first to launch on Immutable zkEVM. Robbie Ferguson, co-founder of Immutable, emphasized that this chain was built exclusively for gamers and gaming studios. Over 200 games have already committed to building on Immutable in the past year, bringing the platform’s market share close to 70%. The chain will also offer gas-free functionality for gamers who use the Immutable Passport non-custodial wallet.
Immutable zkEVM mainnet opening up soon
The Immutable zkEVM mainnet will soon be accessible to the public. This launch is expected to enhance the gaming experience by providing fast and cheap transactions while maintaining compatibility with the Ethereum blockchain. Polygon Labs has also been involved in developing zkEVM chains for other projects such as Astar Network, IDEX, Palm Network, and Manta Pacific.
