Ethereum Core Developers Electrify Upgrade 🚀 Sparking Dencun Activation!

Summary: Ethereum All Core Developers Consensus Call #128

Ethereum’s core developers held their 128th All Core Developers Consensus (ACDC) call on February 22, 2024. The meeting focused on several important topics, including the Electra upgrade, the imminent Dencun upgrade rollout, the debate over issuance curve adjustment, and enhancing light client compatibility.

Electra Upgrade Agendas

The core developers discussed the Electra upgrade, which aims to refine Ethereum’s infrastructure. They agreed to include three Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) in the upgrade: EIP 6110 for on-chain validator deposits, EIP 7002 for execution layer triggerable exits, and EIP 7549 to segregate the committee index from attestations. The developers also considered including EIP 7547 if it meets the criteria for ease of implementation.

Imminent Dencun Upgrade Rollout

All Ethereum clients, except Lodestar, have rolled out their final versions for the Dencun upgrade. The Ethereum Foundation’s DevOps Engineer reported a successful launch of the final mainnet shadow fork for Dencun, indicating a stable transition. The mainnet activation is scheduled for March 13, 2024, with support from the Flashbots team’s Dencun-ready MEV-Boost software update.

Debate Over Issuance Curve Adjustment

A proposal was presented to reduce staking rewards issuance by 30% due to concerns about network load and ETH value dilution. The community will engage in thorough discussion regarding this proposal’s impact and technical implementation.

Enhancing Light Client Compatibility

A proposal was made to update execution layer serialization formats to Simple Serialize (SSZ), aligning with the consensus layer and improving light client development. This update will enhance network inclusivity and efficiency for nodes with limited computational resources.

Hot Take: Ethereum’s Proactive Development Approach

The ACDC call #128 reflects Ethereum’s proactive development approach, with the Electra upgrade playing a crucial role. The discussions around issuance curve adjustments demonstrate the community’s commitment to sustainable network economics. These upgrades and proposals will enhance Ethereum’s infrastructure, ensuring its long-term viability as a leading blockchain platform.
