Ethereum Leads Web3 Developer Activity in the U.S.
A recent report from crypto infrastructure provider Chainstack reveals that Ethereum dominates web3 developer activity in the United States. The report analyzed user infrastructure data to identify usage patterns among web3 app developers, who rely on nodes hosted on traditional cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services.
Protocol Preferences by Region
In the U.S., Ethereum was the preferred protocol, accounting for 38.9% of node requests. BNB Chain and Polygon followed closely behind with 31.3% and 17.2% respectively. Other notable protocols included Avalanche and Solana with 4.8% and 2.4% of node requests.
Meanwhile, in Europe, BNB Chain took the lead with 24.4% of node requests, followed by Polygon at 22.8% and Avalanche at 22.6%. Ethereum came in fourth place with 18.3%, while Arbitrum and Solana accounted for 8.6% and 4.5% respectively.
BNB Chain also dominated in Asia, registering 72.1% of node infrastructure, with Ethereum following at 25.4%. Polygon and Arbitrum generated 4.5% and 4.3% of node requests respectively.
Full Nodes vs Archive Nodes
Full nodes were found to be more popular than archive nodes across all regions. Full nodes provide a more efficient solution by trimming blockchain data compared to maintaining a full archive of transaction history state.
In Asia, full nodes accounted for 99.5% of total requests, while in the U.S., they served 65.8% of requests, and in Europe, they accounted for 71%.
Preference for Elastic Nodes
Elastic nodes, which can be accessed by multiple users and applications simultaneously, were preferred for their cost-effectiveness and scalability. In Asia, they registered 89.6% of requests, followed by Europe at 61%. However, in the U.S., dedicated nodes led with 52.6% of total requests.
Chainstack’s Support for Blockchain Networks
Chainstack supports over 25 of the largest blockchain networks, including Ethereum, Bitcoin, Polygon, and BNB Chain. Their platform enables developers to deploy, manage, and scale their dapps and is utilized by projects such as 1inch, TheGraph, Chainlink, LayerZero, and Trust Wallet.
Hot Take: Ethereum Remains Dominant Among Web3 Developers
The report from Chainstack highlights Ethereum’s continued dominance in web3 developer activity across regions like the U.S. While BNB Chain leads in Europe and Asia, Ethereum maintains its position as the preferred protocol in the United States. This demonstrates Ethereum’s strong foothold in the decentralized application space and its popularity among developers. As web3 continues to evolve and expand globally, it will be interesting to see how these protocol preferences shift and whether new contenders emerge to challenge Ethereum’s dominance.
