Ethereum’s Roadmap for 2024
Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum, has outlined the project’s roadmap for 2024. In a series of posts on X, Buterin discussed Ethereum’s plans for the new year, which closely resemble the roadmap for 2023 with a few modifications.
The Merge: Creating a Robust Proof-of-Stake Network
One of Ethereum’s main goals for 2024 is to establish an ideal and decentralized proof-of-stake (PoS) network. The Merge, which occurred in September 2022, integrated the Ethereum mainnet with the Beacon Chain, marking the end of the proof-of-work consensus algorithm. Buterin mentioned that implementing a single-slot finality mechanism would eliminate current limitations in Ethereum’s PoS design.
The Surge: Advancements in Rollup Scaling
Ethereum aims to make significant progress in rollup scaling through developments in EIP 4844 and various rollups. The focus will also be on improving cross-rollup standards and interoperability to enable processing over 100,000 transactions per second.
The Scourge and The Verge: Addressing Economic Centralization
The Scourge target will tackle economic centralization by addressing issues related to MEV (Miner Extractable Value) and liquid staking/pooling. On the other hand, achieving the Verge involves introducing verkle trees to facilitate block verification on the Ethereum network.
Allegations Against Buterin
In response to Buterin’s concerns about the deviation from Web 3’s original vision, former Ethereum Foundation adviser Steven Nerayoff accused Buterin of “defrauding the world.” Nerayoff claims that Buterin and his associates are responsible for distorting the Web 3 vision for personal gain.
Hot Take: Ethereum’s Roadmap and Controversies
Ethereum’s roadmap for 2024 focuses on key objectives such as establishing a robust PoS network, advancing rollup scaling, and addressing economic centralization. However, the project faces allegations of deviating from its original vision. These controversies highlight the challenges and debates surrounding the development of Ethereum as it continues to evolve and shape the crypto landscape.
