Ethereum’s Holesky Set to Replace Goerli Testnet in 2023
During the Ethereum Execution Layer Meeting 168, an update on the recently launched devnet-8 was shared. Despite some challenges faced by certain clients, most of them have been addressed or are being fixed. Lighthouse encountered an issue with nplex support removal, but they have plans to resolve it. Ethereum JS rectified a bug related to multiple “forkChoiceUpdated calls” during block production. Geth and Nethermind also identified and corrected pre-launch glitches.
The Ethereum Foundation’s Devops team collaborated with Kurtosis Tech for pre-launch testing and expects to use it to enhance test scenarios. Besu and Erigon have not participated in the devnet yet but intend to once their implementations are finalized. In mid-September, Ethereum developers will introduce a new testnet called Holesky, which will provide an abundance of testnet coins for development purposes.

Incorporating 1.6 billion Holesky testnet ether, Holesky is set to replace Goerli as a staking, infrastructure, and protocol-developer testnet in 2023. The launch of Holesky is scheduled for September 15, 2023, and it will be used for testing purposes in future Ethereum upgrades. The next Ethereum core developer Execution Layer Meeting will take place on August 31, 2023.
