Spot Bitcoin ETFs Grabbing Headlines, Says CoinShares Report
A recent report from CoinShares highlights the increasing popularity of spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs). According to the report, there was a $1.18 billion inflow into the crypto space in the past week, with the majority of funds going to the US market. The North American market received a total of $1.24 billion, while the European market saw minor inflows.
US Market Benefits from Spot Bitcoin ETF Approval
CoinShares attributes the shift in funds from Europe to the US market to the recent approval of a spot Bitcoin ETF by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The report also shows that month-to-date inflows to the US institutional crypto market reached $1.322 billion, with total assets under management (AUM) standing at $40.024 billion.
Bitcoin Dominates Inflows
The report reveals that Bitcoin was the primary beneficiary of these inflows, with $1.141.8 billion worth of Bitcoin assets entering the US market.
Canadian Bitcoin ETF and European Outflows
The impact of spot Bitcoin ETFs is not limited to Europe alone. The Canadian crypto market experienced negative inflows, while Germany and Sweden also saw outflows. BitMEX Research noted that $30 million was moved out of European markets on January 17, with a total outflow of $106 million for that day.
European Investors Shift to US Spot Bitcoin ETFs
European investors are rapidly moving their funds from high-fee Bitcoin exchange-traded products (ETPs) to more cost-effective spot Bitcoin ETFs in the US market. CoinShares’ Luke Nolan explains that using a domestic spot Bitcoin ETF is more convenient for institutions as they can execute the same basis trades.
