The Ripple vs. SEC Trial: Potential Settlement Speculations Continue

The case between Ripple and the United States Securities and Exchange Commission is set to begin trial on April 23rd, 2024. The Commission recently achieved a small victory when the court ordered Ripple Labs to disclose financial statements for the years 2022 and 2023, which the company had previously contested.

Despite this development, speculations about a potential settlement have been circulating within the crypto community. However, Marc Fagel, a former Director of the SEC’s San Francisco Office, dismissed the possibility last year. He believed that the unsealing order indicated that the court had already determined the ruling and suggested that some aspects of the case were likely headed for trial.

Months later, Jesse Hynes, a lawyer and former CLO of Gala Games, cautioned against trusting rumors of a Ripple-SEC settlement until it actually happens. He emphasized that settlement talks often leak as part of power play moves for leverage.
