Judge Accepts CZ’s Guilty Plea

The guilty plea of Changpeng Zhao, the former CEO of Binance, has been accepted by Judge Richard Jones of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington in Seattle. The court documents reveal that the plea was accepted on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. CoinGape previously reported that Zhao had entered a guilty plea with the US Department of Justice in November 2023. While the Department sought a $4 billion settlement fee, it is unclear whether Zhao will be allowed to leave the United States at this time.

“This Court, having considered the Report and Recommendation of the United States Magistrate Judge, to which there has no timely objection, and subject to consideration of the Plea Agreement, hereby accepts the plea of guilty of the defendant. The defendant is adjudged guilty of such offense.”

Sentencing for Changpeng Zhao is scheduled for February 2024, and he has agreed to return to the United States for this purpose. Prosecutors have requested that he not be allowed to leave the US before the sentencing hearing on February 23, 2024.
