Former CFO of Terraform Labs Extradited to South Korea

Han Chang-joon, the former Chief Financial Officer of Terraform Labs, has been extradited to South Korea by Montenegrin Police. This comes after the completion of his jail term. The extradition was carried out based on a decision made by the Ministry of Justice in Montenegro.

Arrest and Sentencing

Han was arrested at the Podgorica airport in March 2023 along with Terraform’s co-founder Do Kwon. Both individuals were sentenced to four months in prison for document forgery. The court also seized their ID cards and passports.

Extradition Process

The Montenegrin Police handed over Han Chang-joon to the police and judicial authorities in South Korea. This was done by the Special Police Unit and NCB Interpol Podgorica.

Do Kwon’s Case Still Pending

While Han’s case has been resolved, Do Kwon’s fate is still undecided. He appealed a January decision for his extradition to either the United States or South Korea. Criminal proceedings are expected to be initiated against him for multiple offenses related to fraud.

Terraform’s Stablecoin Controversy

In 2022, Terra’s algorithmic stablecoin collapse resulted in significant market losses. This led to increased regulatory pressure and controversy within the cryptocurrency industry. The collapse of Terra and other events, such as FTX filing for bankruptcy, have triggered criminal investigations into the actions of executives in the crypto space.
