Founder of Dogecoin Dismisses Connection to Defunct 2013 Cryptocurrency Initiative

The Resurrection of BELLS Blockchain

Dogecoin founder Billy Markus has recently been caught up in a new controversy surrounding a project he abandoned 10 years ago. The project, known as BELLS, was Markus’s brainchild before the creation of Dogecoin. However, he had not mentioned anything about it until now.

Last week, crypto enthusiast Adam McBride shared his discovery on X (formerly Twitter) that was connected to one of the Dogecoin founders, Bill Markus. McBride revealed that BELLS token was founded by Markus in 2013 but was ultimately abandoned. After the 10th anniversary of DOGE, McBride went on a hunt for Markus’s other crypto project and successfully found it.

McBride and another crypto enthusiast managed to uncover information about the BELLS blockchain, its fork, and an Ethereum version. But the story doesn’t end there.

McBride then shared his findings with developer Luke Wrightmain who successfully resurrected the BELLS blockchain. Mining on BELLS resumed, allowing miners to earn BEL tokens for their efforts.

Dogecoin Founder Denies Ties to Revived Project

User CryptoKaduna took to X on Monday to share information about the BELLS project with over 110,000 followers. Although not directly mentioning BELLS, Kaduna hinted that it was a relaunched coin founded by Markus. The tweet also suggested that Markus had joined the project’s Discord to assist with its development.

However, Markus clarified on X that he is not involved in the revived project in any way. He explained that the original tweet was misleading and that he joined the project’s Discord only to observe and provide insights into the technology. Markus emphasized that the technology behind the project is outdated and cautioned users to be aware of its limitations.

The Dogecoin founder reiterated his previous statement that he has no intentions of being a developer on any crypto project in the future. He made it clear that he will not be involved in any crypto projects and has expressed this stance multiple times.
