Layer 2 Network Optimism Announces Fourth Airdrop for Web3 Artists
Layer 2 network Optimism has launched its fourth airdrop, with a focus on rewarding web3 artists. The airdrop distributed 10,343,757.81 OP tokens, valued at approximately $40.8 million, to 22,998 addresses. Participants have until Feb. 13, 2025, to claim their tokens.
Optimism expressed gratitude to artists for their contributions and creativity on the blockchain. According to the airdrop claim page, the initiative aims to acknowledge the important role of artists in building a great society.
The Fourth Airdrop Eligibility
Artists who created NFT art between Jan. 10, 2023, and Jan. 10, 2024, on the Ethereum mainnet or Optimism’s Superchain were eligible for the airdrop. The rewards were based on the amount of gas spent by other users while minting or trading NFTs. More popular projects resulted in higher rewards for creators.
The maximum reward per address was set at 6,000 OP (about $23,640). Bonus eligibility criteria allowed users to increase their token allocations by up to 50% or multiply them by 1.5.
Previous Airdrops and Future Plans
This is Optimism’s fourth airdrop following previous distributions in May 2022, February 2023, and September 2023. The platform plans to refine its mechanism through multiple drops and has approximately 560 million OP tokens remaining for future airdrops.
