Google Cloud Becomes Verifier on LayerZero Network
Google’s cloud division has taken on the role of a verifier on the LayerZero network’s cross-chain messaging protocol. The company’s “oracle” system will be accessible to all LayerZero applications. This move offers users more options in selecting an oracle to relay messages between different chains.
Within LayerZero’s architecture, oracles transfer message data from one chain to another, storing a portion of it. Each oracle is a unique network that approves or rejects cross-chain messages based on validation logic and receives payment for their services.
The addition of Google Cloud provides LayerZero users with the choice of relying on Google Cloud or other providers as oracles. The increased number of validators enhances network resiliency by reducing dependence on a single oracle provider, according to Google Cloud.
In LayerZero’s documentation, Google Cloud is listed as the default oracle configuration for messaging but allows integration with other oracles like TSS and Chainlink. The company clarifies that it focuses on providing secure infrastructure rather than reviewing software or smart contracts.
Prior to this collaboration, Google Cloud has worked with various crypto teams including Aptos, BNB Chain, Hedera, Tezos, and Near to offer cloud and blockchain infrastructure.
What is LayerZero?
LayerZero is an interoperability protocol that facilitates secure communication and data transfer between blockchains. It ensures the seamless exchange of assets and information while maintaining security.
In April, LayerZero secured $120 million in a Series B funding round at a valuation of $3 billion.
Hot Take: Google Cloud Expands its Role in Blockchain Interoperability
By becoming a verifier on the LayerZero network, Google Cloud strengthens its position in the blockchain interoperability space. This collaboration provides LayerZero users with increased flexibility in choosing their oracle provider, reducing reliance on a single entity and enhancing network resilience.
Google Cloud’s focus on secure infrastructure aligns with its commitment to providing reliable and trusted services. As LayerZero continues to grow and facilitate seamless communication between blockchains, Google Cloud’s involvement underscores its dedication to supporting the crypto industry’s infrastructure needs.
