Hacker Offers Binance’s Law Enforcement Request Panel Access for $10K in BTC

Hacker Attempts to Sell Access to Binance’s Law Enforcement Panel

An individual on the Breach Forums platform is offering to sell access to Binance’s law enforcement panel for $10,000. The user, known as “Miembro,” claims to have access to Binance’s Data Request Portal, which is exclusively used by law enforcement officials worldwide. According to Miembro, the portal usually responds to requests within three to seven days and allows unlimited requests. The payment for access must be made in Bitcoin or Monero.

Concerns for Crypto Users

The hacker’s actions have raised concerns within the cryptocurrency community. Investigation by Hudson Rock researchers revealed that the Data Request Portal is hosted on a third-party service called Kodex Global. It was discovered that several law enforcement computers were compromised in 2023 due to global malware campaigns. However, it remains uncertain if the hacker obtained access through stolen login credentials. If successful, the hacker could leak wallet addresses, transaction records, and personal data of crypto users, potentially leading to illegal retrieval of funds.

Regulatory Challenges Faced by Binance

In recent times, Binance has faced regulatory challenges following investigations by the US Department of Justice (DoJ) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). As a result, Binance has been ordered to pay a $4.3 billion penalty, with $2.7 billion going to the CFTC for penalties and transaction fees related to the exchange’s activities. Founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has resigned as CEO, and Richard Teng has taken over.

Hot Take: Hacker Puts Crypto Users at Risk

The attempt by a hacker to sell access to Binance’s law enforcement panel raises serious concerns for crypto users. If successful, this breach could lead to the leakage of sensitive information and illegal retrieval of funds. It highlights the importance of robust security measures and the need for platforms like Binance to enhance their defenses against such threats.
