Ripple Receives License to Provide Digital Asset Services in Ireland

Ripple Labs, a blockchain-based payments company, has announced that its subsidiary, Ripple Markets Ireland Limited, has been granted a license by the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) to operate as a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP). This license allows Ripple to offer various digital asset services in Ireland, including exchanges, transfers, wallet custody, and crypto-related financial services.

The CBI grants the VASP license to companies with satisfactory anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) policies and procedures. Other companies on the central bank’s VASP register include Coinbase, Gemini, and Paysafe.

Ripple plans to expand its operations in Europe and aims to provide services across the European Economic Area once the Markets in Crypto Assets Regulation (MiCA) is implemented in late 2024.
