Crypto Scammers Preying on Portuguese Investors: How to Stay Safe

Have you heard about the recent crypto scam in Portugal? Two unsuspecting individuals from Cantanhede fell victim to a fraudulent scheme, losing a staggering $312,000. The scammers promised them quick profits by staking coins on a seemingly legitimate platform. One of the victims sent $213,000 worth of Bitcoin to a wallet they believed belonged to a reputable crypto firm. They were told they could make over $800,000 by storing their BTC on the platform. The other victim sent around $94,000 over a month. Unfortunately, both investors ended up losing their money as the platform turned out to be a front for an elaborate scam.

What raised suspicions? First, they were asked to pay an additional 3% fee to withdraw their tokens. Later, they were informed that their coins were frozen and could only be recovered by paying thousands of USD in unlocking fees. Realizing they had been scammed, they promptly filed a complaint with the police.
