Economy Minister Sergio Massa Proposes Use of Blockchain for State Oversight

Sergio Massa, the economy minister and presidential candidate in Argentina, has suggested using blockchain technology to oversee state accounts and provide citizens with access to this data. Massa mentioned creating a blockchain system that would enable Argentines to access the national budget execution plan using their mobile phones. He emphasized the importance of communication, wanting every Argentine to be able to monitor the state accounts online on their cell phones. Massa also mentioned using the system to register contracts between companies completing state work and the government, emphasizing the transparency and certainty it would bring to state contractual relations in his potential upcoming administration.

Nascimento: Drex Might ‘Kill’ Many Cryptocurrencies in Brazil

João Pedro Nascimento, president of the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM), expressed concerns that Brazil’s central bank digital currency (CBDC), known as drex, could negatively impact other cryptocurrencies in the country. Nascimento stated that while established cryptocurrency projects like Bitcoin may remain unaffected, lesser-known crypto projects could suffer a decline in popularity due to the functionalities offered by drex, which might be launched next year.

Okx Announces Expansion to Brazil

Okx, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, announced its plans to expand operations to Brazil in the near future. Okx Executive President Hong Fang highlighted the strategic importance of Latin America and Brazil for the crypto industry and emphasized the diverse approach to crypto in the region, where it is used for saving and as a hedge against inflation. Fang also stated the company’s commitment to complying with national cryptocurrency laws and offering Portuguese-based customer support.
